Meet Michelle

Meet Michelle Spina, L. Ac., MTOM

I'm an acupuncturist, licensed in both New York and California. I am a Diplomat of Acupuncture, Chinese Herbology, and Oriental Medicine. I am an advanced practitioner of NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique www.naet.com) trained by Devi herself. I traveled to the rainforest of Belize to study with Rosita Arvigo, ND to learn Maya abdominal massage and spiritual healing. I am also a registered yoga teacher trained in Core Strength Vinyasa by Sadie Nardini and prenatal yoga.

My study of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) began in 1997 as an apprentice to Alex Tiberi, one of the leading pioneers of TCM in the US and founding member of the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) and Aquilino Serrano, advanced practitioner of NAET, at the renowned Pacific Center of Health in San Diego, California. I graduated PCOM San Diego in 2001. My postgraduate studies have been varied but include Integrated Oncology at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Balance Method with Dr. Richard Tan, Mayan massage and spiritual healing with Rosita Arvigo, and much more.

I believe that my practice is constantly evolving and blends various healing modalities for my patient's greater good.

ABOUT ME
SERVICES

Fertility Coaching

Michelle has been practicing for over 16 years. In that time, assisted reproductive technology has grown dramatically. There are many paths to take. It is a very confusing landscape. Michelle takes the time to educate her patients. She explains procedures, lab results, medications, what to expect and advises on best options based on case specifics. Navigating the system can be overwhelming. There is also an extreme emotional component when facing a fertility challenge. Michelle's years of experience uniquely enable her to support her patient.

Acupuncture

A successful treatment depends upon correct diagnosis, a dynamic point prescription and accessing the Qi with the needle.

Moxibustion

This is the burning of mugwart (ai ye) to tonify qi and blood, move stagnation and warm the channels. It can be done indirectly as pole moxa or directly as rice grain moxa. Patients may be given moxa as an at-home therapy as well.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha means, "to bring up the red", it is a bodywork technique that pre-dates acupuncture and is used to release blood stagnation and alleviate chronic pain. Facial Gua Sha can smooth fine lines and wrinkles, plump, tighten, and rejuvenate the skin.

Cupping

A slight suction is appliedto the back with glass or plastic cup releasing heat and toxins from the body as well as relaxing muscle tension and moving blood stagnation. It is usedto clear the complexion, respiratory problems and pain management.

Eastern Nutrition

Chinese herbal formulas are elegant and balanced. They enhance the efficacy of most treatments and are well suited for most patients. Prior to prescribing herbs, I modify my patients' diet for their constitution and try to re-balance them with acupuncture and application of Eastern nutrition.

Tui Na & Qi Gong

These hand techniques, one manual one energetic, release blockages and tension from the body. Both invigorating and relaxing these modalities alleviate stress, improve function, and reduce pain and stiffness.

NAET

NAET stands for Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques. It is a system of healing that blends several modalities to produce a highly effective result. NAET is an innovative and completely natural method for regaining better health.

Testimonials

A master in the field and someone who has helped me personally unblock, rejuvenate and relax on multiple occasions with her deftly wielded needles.

—Daphne Oz

I went to Michelle based on a recommendation from someone else in 2005 and it was one of the best moves I've ever made. Michelle is to this day the ONLY acupuncturist to restore my period back (I've been to about 5 different acupunturists in my life).  Michelle is fantastic at what she does and I trust her 100%.

—K. Miller

After trying to get pregnant for one year, we decided to try acupuncture before committing to western fertility procedures, which are invasive and expensive. Through Dr. Spina's simple adjustments to our diets and weekly acupuncture treatments, we were pregnant in 2 months. Our son is now 18 months! We highly recommend her to those looking to heal and balance their bodies for fertility, or other issues.
